Planting & Care Guide

• When to Plant: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before your region's last expected spring frost. Lavender seeds are slow to start and benefit from a head start inside.

• Seeding Depth: Extremely shallow (1/8 inch deep). Lightly press the seeds into loose, finely prepared seed-starting mix and cover with just a bare dusting of soil. Lavender seeds require light to trigger germination.

• Spacing: Thin or space individual plants about 12 to 18 inches apart. Giving them plenty of space ensures excellent air circulation, which keeps the plants healthy and disease-free.

• Watering: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy during the germination period (which can take a patient 14–28 days). Once established, water very sparingly. Lavender is highly drought-tolerant and absolutely hates "wet feet." Allow the soil to dry out deeply between waterings.

• Pro Gardening Tip: The secret to thriving lavender is incredible drainage and a touch of patience! If planting in a pot or raised bed, mix plenty of coarse sand or perlite into your potting soil to ensure water runs right through. After the flowering season finishes in late summer, prune the plant back by about one-third to encourage bushy new growth and prevent the base from becoming too woody or leggy for next spring.
